Offinso: Mr Caesar Ofosu Acheampong, the Offinso North Municipal Chief Executive, has called on churches to prioritize the spiritual and physical development of the youthful population. He expressed concern about the growing trend of youth substance abuse, stating that it is the responsibility of churches to help guide young people responsibly, as they are the future of both the church and the nation.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Acheampong made these remarks during a ceremony marking the elevation of the Preaching Post of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) at Canaan in the Municipality. The PCG elevated the Post to congregation status within the church. Mr Acheampong emphasized the need for effective partnerships between the government and the church to address the nation's pressing challenges, specifically highlighting the surge in illicit substance abuse among the youth as a national concern.
He urged the church to take a leading role in the fight against youth substance abuse to ensure a better future for the younger generation. Furthermore, Reverend Samuel Owusu Fianko, the Akumadan District Minister of the PCG, advised Ghanaians to fear God, abstain from evil, and prioritize their spiritual development. He noted that the Preaching Post, which began in 2017 with only three members meeting in a classroom, now boasts 110 members congregating in their own church building.
Additionally, a seven-member Presbytery led by Senior Presbyter Mary Amankwah was inducted into office to oversee the affairs of the church.
