NPP Council of Elders Endorses Bawumia for 2028 Presidential Election

Sunyani: Mr. James Kofi Kyeremeh, the Chairman of the Bono Regional New Patriotic Party (NPP) Council of Elders, has expressed optimism about the party's prospects in the 2028 election, emphasizing that the former Vice President Alhaji Dr. Bawumia would enhance their chances of victory. He urged party delegates to support Bawumia in the upcoming NPP flagbearer election scheduled for January 2026.

According to Ghana News Agency, the NPP, the country's largest opposition party, has initiated the nomination process for its eagerly awaited presidential primaries, set for Saturday, January 31, 2026. In a recent interview in Sunyani, Mr. Kyeremeh, known as 'Shekinah,' stated that the Council of Elders in the Bono Region unanimously backed Bawumia's candidacy for party leadership.

Mr. Kyeremeh committed to ensuring Bawumia's success in the primaries and leading the NPP to reclaim power in 2028. His remarks came during an interaction with Mr. Yaw Dabie Appiah Mensah, a prominent NPP member and Bawumia campaign advocate, who met with the council of elders in Sunyani to solicit support for Bawumia.

He highlighted that the majority of the Council of Elders in the region endorsed Bawumia's 2028 presidential ambition, citing his potential to facilitate the NPP's return to power. Mr. Kyeremeh, however, urged the party to remain vigilant in addressing internal and external challenges that contributed to their loss in the 2024 election.

Mr. Mensah, in a related interview, noted that the NPP's 41 percent vote share in the 2024 General Election demonstrated potential for a future win under Bawumia's leadership. He stressed the importance of Bawumia's media presence and appeal in securing the party's victory.

Additionally, Mr. Mensah contributed undisclosed funds to support the political efforts of the council of elders, encouraging them to lead Bawumia's campaign for the greater good of the NPP.
