Northern Development Forum Calls for Immediate End to Violence in Bawku and Nalerigu

Accra: The Northern Development Forum (NDF) has expressed sorrow and concern at the escalation of violence in the Upper East Region, particularly in Bawku and Nalerigu in the Upper East and North East Regions respectively. Confirmed reports have it that three students were fatally shot in two separate instances at Nalerigu Senior High School in the North East Region and Bawku Senior High School in the Upper East Region.

According to Ghana News Agency, a statement signed by Major (rtd) Albert Don-Chebe, Chairman of NDF, and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra, urged for calm and tolerance amidst the adversities to bring an immediate end to the violence and hostility in the two regions. The statement emphasized the importance of protecting the future of students and called for the cessation of gun violence.

The NDF is appealing to the people of Northern Ghana to cease all forms of violence. They have called on stakeholders, particularly Nayiri, the overlord of Mamprugu, and Zuraan, the overlord of Kusuag, to promote restraint within their communities. The NDF also highlighted the need for active engagement in pursuing lasting peace, led by His Majesty, Otumfour Osei Tutu II.

The forum has also reached out to the sons and daughters of the five northern regions and other well-meaning individuals to support initiatives aimed at ending the distressing fratricide quickly. They expressed their readiness to devote efforts to end the troubling situation that hinders Northern Development.

The NDF extended their sympathies to the families of the students who lost their lives in the tragedy and earlier incidents of violence. They prayed for the peaceful rest of the souls of the deceased and hoped for peace to be restored in Bawku and Nalerigu soon.
