Entrance University Hospital Launches Eye Care Unit and Offers Free Screenings to Hundreds

Accra: The Entrance University Hospital, a part of the Tobinco Group of Companies, has officially launched a state-of-the-art eye care unit, providing a range of eye care services to the public. In celebration of the opening, the hospital offered free eye screenings to over 300 individuals, as well as discounts ranging from 20 to 35 percent on eye glasses and up to 50 percent on various services, including laboratory tests and scans.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Emil Opeku, the Hospital Administrator, explained that the establishment of the modern eye clinic is part of the hospital's expansion plans aimed at promoting good vision among citizens. The free eye screening day was organized to meet the community halfway and give back to society.

Mr. Opeku highlighted the discounts provided on spectacles and other medications and mentioned the benevolent support of Elder Samuel Amo Tobin, a key figure in the Tobinco Group, in making these services accessible to the public.

Dr. Alphaeus Asamoah Amoasi, the Optometrist leading the screening exercise, noted that although they initially planned to serve around 100 individuals, the turnout exceeded expectations, with over 300 people receiving care. The screenings revealed various eye conditions, predominantly refractive errors, astigmatism, cataracts, and infections.

Dr. Amoasi emphasized the importance of regular eye examinations and advised the public on preventive measures, such as wearing UV-protected glasses and taking breaks during prolonged computer use. He cautioned against delaying eye check-ups, sharing the case of a 43-year-old who discovered advanced glaucoma too late.

Beneficiaries like Mr. Abraham Asare expressed gratitude for the free screenings, which revealed critical conditions like glaucoma that require urgent attention.

The Entrance University Hospital in Accra offers a wide range of services, including maternity, obstetrics and gynecology, laboratory and pharmacy services, dietetics and pediatric care, ambulance and homecare services, as well as ECG services.
