North Korea Reaffirms Unconditional Support for Russia in Ukraine Conflict

Wonsan: North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has reaffirmed his support for Russia in its ongoing conflict with Ukraine, as reported by state media on Sunday.

According to Ghana News Agency, Kim met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Saturday in Wonsan. During the meeting, Kim stated that North Korea and Russia share the same views on strategic issues and expressed Pyongyang's readiness to unconditionally support all measures taken by the Russian leadership concerning the Ukrainian crisis.

The strategic partnership between Moscow and Pyongyang was formalized in 2024 during Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to North Korea. The agreement includes provisions for military assistance if either country is attacked.

North Korea has actively supported Russia in its war against Ukraine, providing weapons and soldiers to Moscow. North Korean soldiers have been deployed to the western Russian region of Kursk to assist in recapturing areas taken by Ukrainian forces.

Estimates from the Ukrainian intelligence service indicate that approximately 14,000 North Korean soldiers have been involved in fighting on this front. Ukraine has been defending against the full-scale Russian invasion since February 2022.
