Accra: The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially unveiled its leadership for the Ninth Parliament, appointing Mr Mahama Ayariga, Member of Parliament (MP) for Bawku Central, as the Majority Leader. The announcement marks a significant milestone in Ghana's political landscape as the NDC positions itself to strengthen its legislative influence.
According to Ghana News Agency, the Deputy Majority Leader is Mr Kweku Ricketts-Hagan, NDC MP for Cape Coast South, while Mr Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, NDC MP for South Dayi, takes the role of Majority Chief Whip. Madam Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe-Ghansah, NDC MP for Ada, has been named the First Deputy Majority Whip, and Mr Richard Acheampong, NDC MP for Bia East, the Second Deputy Majority Whip.
A statement, signed by Mr Fiifi Fiavi Kwettey, the General Secretary of the Party, and issued to Mr Alban Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament, detailed that these appointments followed the NDC's selection process involving consultations with the party's Majority Caucus. The statement emphasized the party's request for formalizing these appointments in line with established parliamentary procedures.
As the Majority Leader, Mr Ayariga is expected to leverage his extensive political experience to lead the NDC Caucus and manage government business effectively. His role will be crucial in coordinating the NDC's parliamentary agenda and ensuring the passage of essential legislation. In his acceptance statement, Mr Ayariga expressed his commitment to pursuing an agenda aimed at resetting Ghana, with a focus on inclusivity, consensus building, and maintaining principles of accountability.
