Nine Remanded for Alleged Attack on Weija Sub Chief with Cutlass, Axe and Scissors

Accra: Nine persons, who allegedly attacked a sub chief of Weija with a cutlass, an axe, and a pair of scissors, have been remanded into police custody by the Adabraka District Court.

According to Ghana News Agency, the accused persons are alleged to have inflicted multiple cutlass and axe wounds and stabbed the complainant several times with the pair of scissors on September 10, 2025, at Darkuman Cable in the Greater Accra Region.

The accused individuals are Bernard Tagoe, also known as Asa Sese, a 31-year-old unemployed man; Eric Nii Martey, a 28-year-old mechanic apprentice; Michael Lokko, a 22-year-old bookman; Felix Adu Mensah, a 22-year-old mechanic apprentice; and Habib Gusamu, a 31-year-old painter. The rest include Solomon Assan, a 29-year-old driver; Kwame Khalid, a 29-year-old tiler; Jacob Addy, a 25-year-old driver's mate; and Gideon Arthur, a 21-year-old mechanic apprentice.

Four other accomplices, whose names were not provided, are currently at large. They were charged with conspiracy to commit a crime, specifically causing harm with a pair of scissors and a cutlass.

The court, presided over by Mrs. Abena Owusu Omenyo, did not take their pleas pending further investigations into the matter. Prosecution led by Chief Inspector Apeweh Achana informed the court that the police were also making efforts to arrest other accomplices who are on the run.

The facts presented in court indicate that the complainant, Mutala Yayaa, a trader and sub chief at Weija residing in Darkuman, was attacked by the accused persons. They are residents of Abossey-Okai, Darkuman, and Bubuashie.

On September 10, 2025, around 4:30 pm, the complainant, along with some of his errand boys, went to Darkuman Cable and Wireless to greet some of 'his people.' Upon reaching a place known as Bolga, the accused persons emerged, questioning the complainant's authority to walk in the area with his boys. When the complainant refused to comply with their demand to sit down, they attacked him with a cutlass, axe, and scissors, causing severe injuries.

A report was filed with the police at Darkuman, and the complainant was given a medical form to seek treatment and report back. The case was later referred to the Regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in Accra for further investigation.

On September 11, 2025, the complainant returned the endorsed medical form to the police, who then traced and arrested the accused persons at their hideout. During interrogation, each of the accused denied the offenses in their caution statements. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining accomplices to aid in the investigation.
