TARKWA: Nine individuals accused of conspiring and murdering a taxi driver, Kwadwo Donkor, have been remanded into prison custody by the Tarkwa Magistrate Court One. The accused, facing charges of conspiracy to commit a crime and murder, did not enter pleas during the court proceedings. They are scheduled to reappear before the court on January 6, 2025.According to Ghana News Agency, Prosecuting Police Sergeant Enoch Assan Donkor presented the facts of the case, detailing that the deceased, known as Kwadwo or "chilling," was an employee of the complainant, a businessman residing in Huniso. The accused individuals, comprising a teacher, mason, drivers, and farmers, hail from Akotom and the nearby village of Camp.On November 8, 2024, Kwadwo left home with his taxicab for work but failed to return, prompting the complainant to report his disappearance to the police the following day. Investigations led to the discovery that a suspect named Sheriffa, currently at large, had accused Kwadwo of theft at Akotom, which led to his assault by the accused and other youth from the town. The police learned that the accused tied Kwadwo to an electric pole and subjected him to severe beatings, resulting in his death. His body was subsequently discarded in a bush along the Tarkwa-Bogoso Highway, approximately 1.5 kilometers from Akotom. Police investigations revealed that Agyarko, one of the accused, initially denied involvement but later confessed and implicated others, aiding the police in retrieving the decomposed body.Subsequent arrests followed, leading to the detention of Azure, Antwi, Davor, and others. The presiding judge, Mr. Charles Owusu Nsiah, instructed the police to ensure solid evidence implicating all accused persons, particularly Agbodojie, Bonzy, Owusu, Ampabeng, and Mudoo. The prosecution assured the court that they would outline each accused person's role in Kwadwo's death at the next hearing.
