Accra: The Community Partnerships for Citizens Actions and Development (COPCAD), a Non-Governmental Organization, has organized a drama event aimed at promoting peaceful elections in Jamestown, a suburb of Accra. The performance, titled 'Unity in Diversity,' serves as part of the NGO's initiative to encourage peace and unity among the youth of Jamestown, advocating for elections devoid of violence.According to Ghana News Agency, the event was held in collaboration with KGL Foundation and successfully gathered residents, community leaders, and stakeholders. The objective was to underscore the significance of tolerance, unity, and civic responsibility. The drama featured a diverse cast of local actors, musicians, and dancers, celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Jamestown. It underscored the adverse effects of violence and the advantages of peaceful coexistence during elections.Mr. Michael Aggrey, Programmes Manager of COPCAD, emphasized that unity is crucial for peaceful elections. He urged the youth to be tolerant of differing opinions and choices during the forthcoming elections. "The drama performances we have witnessed today depicted the consequences of violence and the benefits of peaceful coexistence. Let us take these messages to heart and strive to maintain peace and harmony in our communities," he stated.Mr. Aggrey also appealed to politicians to prioritize peace and unity in their campaigns, suggesting they focus on ideas rather than insults. He commended the security agencies for their efforts in maintaining peace and order and encouraged them to continue working together to prevent violence and ensure a peaceful election. Furthermore, he called upon Ghanaians to act as peace ambassadors within their communities before, during, and after the elections."As we approach the election season, let us remember that our individual choices have a collective impact on society. Choose peace over violence, tolerance over intolerance, and unity over division," he remarked. The Programmes Manager explain ed that the drama event is part of a larger initiative to promote peaceful elections in Ghana. It represents COPCAD's contribution to ensuring violence-free elections, in collaboration with stakeholders like the Electoral Commission of Ghana and the National Commission for Civic Education.Additionally, Mr. Aggrey urged the media to maintain accuracy, objectivity, and impartiality in their reporting and called on political party leaders to encourage their supporters to prioritize tolerance and unity throughout the election period.
