Accra: The new multi-purpose Trade Fair and Exhibition Centre located at La in the La-Dadekotopon Municipality of the Greater Accra Region is expected to be ready in eight months' time. The masterplan of the facility, being funded through a public-private partnership, will comprise a 30,000-seater-capacity auditorium, gift shops, restaurants, hotels, and parking space, upon completion. The entertainment enclave will host trade exhibitions, conferences, outdoor shows, music concerts, and festivals.According to Ghana News Agency, during a visit to the project site on Monday, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia emphasized the importance of the tourism and creative sectors as key pillars for the economic growth of every country, highlighting the government's determination to ensure the project's execution. He noted that successive governments have struggled to realize this much-needed project, as the tourism and creative sectors are critical for economic growth.Dr. Bawumia stressed the necessity of infrastructure to support the tourism and creative sectors' role in the country's development agenda. He cited events such as 'December in Ghana' and 'Beyond the Return' concerts as examples of outdoor events capable of generating significant foreign inflows. The Vice President expressed satisfaction with the progress at the site and commended the Ghana Trade Fair Centre's Board and Management for their efforts.Dr. Bawumia reiterated plans to offload three percent of the government's annual expenditure, totaling GHS 30 billion, to the private sector, aiming to reduce the government's financial burden. This policy is expected to create fiscal space for the government to allocate taxpayers' money to other productive sectors of the economy.Dr. Agnes Adu, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Trade Fair Centre, remarked that upon completion, the centre would become one of the vibrant entertainment enclaves in the country and the Sub-region. She acknowledged the country's creative industry had been hindered by the lack of a venue for large events, with the current largest event center having only a 3,000-seater capacity. Dr. Adu believes the new multi-functional hub will revitalize the creative and tourism industry.Dr. Adu confirmed that essential amenities such as water, electricity, and fiber connectivity have been established at the site. Additionally, a portion of the site's 100-acre land has been allocated to the Africa Continental Free Trade Area Secretariat for use as permanent offices.
