NCCE Urges Youth Participation in Anti-Corruption Efforts

Ellembelle: Mr Samuel Aibi, the Ellembelle District Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has called on the youth to actively participate in combating corruption and related practices to facilitate national development. He emphasized the importance of young people speaking out against corruption within their communities as a pivotal strategy for the nation's progress.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Aibi made these remarks during an engagement session organized by the Ellembelle NCCE aimed at empowering youth groups with knowledge about legal frameworks for fighting corruption in the country. The event attracted religious and traditional leaders, representatives from the hairdressers' association, tailors' association, and 'okada' riders, among other youth groups.

The engagement was part of the NCCE's 'Civic Engagements on the Rule of Law and the Fight Against Corruption' project. This initiative seeks to equip young individuals with practical knowledge on the rule of law, civic rights, and legal frameworks such as the Whistleblower Act, highlighting their roles in promoting transparency and accountability. The project is being implemented in collaboration with the Deutsche Gesellschaft fr Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and co-funded by the European Union (EU).

Mr Aibi underscored that combating corruption is a civic duty and responsibility for every citizen, as mandated by the 1992 Constitution, which designates certain institutions to spearhead the fight against corruption. He encouraged the youth to report any corrupt practices they encounter to appropriate channels for necessary action against offenders.

Reverend Alex Donkor, of Fountain of Life Ministries, highlighted how corruption undermines trust in institutions, diverts resources, and perpetuates an inequitable and unjust society. He emphasized the need for youth leadership in the fight against corruption to achieve sustainable development for all.
