Wechiau: Mr. Victor Nuworkpor, the Upper West Regional Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has called upon political party youth activists to adhere strictly to the electoral rules of Ghana. This appeal is part of efforts to ensure that the forthcoming elections are conducted peacefully. Mr. Nuworkpor emphasized the importance of respecting democratic principles and election protocols, viewing them as essential for maintaining peace throughout the election period and beyond.According to Ghana News Agency, the call for adherence to electoral rules was made during an engagement session held in Wechiau, within the Wa West District. The session aimed to highlight the necessity for youth activists to conduct themselves in a manner that safeguards the nation's peace during the election process. This engagement was organized by the Wa West Directorate of the NCCE under the European Union (EU)-funded 'Preventing and Containing Violent Extremism (PCVE) Action in Ghana's Northern Regions' project, which is being implemented by the NCCE.The PCVE project, spearheaded by the Ghana government through the NCCE, seeks to build resilience and empower citizens to prevent the infiltration of violent extremists by promoting peace. The workshop was attended by approximately 40 participants representing various political parties in the Wa West Constituency, including the Liberal Peoples Party, Ghana Union Movement, National Democratic Congress, New Patriotic Party, Peoples National Convention, Convention Peoples Party, and the New Force Movement, among others.Mr. Nuworkpor voiced concerns over the 'toxic political atmosphere in the West African sub-region' and stressed that young people must actively promote peace to reinforce Ghana's democratic standing. Additionally, Madam Esther Suglo, the Wa West District Director of the NCCE, urged the activists to act responsibly and resist being used by politicians for narrow electoral gains. She highlighted the invaluable nature of peace in Ghana, urging the y outh to understand that peace comes at a price that should not be compromised.The workshop also featured Mr. Tahiru Lukman, the Chief Executive Officer of IDEAPATH Consult, as a facilitator. He discussed the critical role of youth in achieving peaceful electoral outcomes and emphasized the importance of inter-religious tolerance and combating misinformation. Mr. Lukman encouraged the youth to see peace and tolerance as vital to ensuring social cohesion and successful elections.In conclusion, the political party youth activists present at the engagement pledged to uphold and demonstrate peace throughout the 2024 general elections, reinforcing the commitment to a peaceful democratic process in Ghana.
