NCCE Organizes Quiz Competition to Celebrate Ghana’s 68th Independence in Bawku

Bawku: The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Bawku Municipal Directorate, successfully organized an inter-school quiz competition for Basic Schools within the Bawku Municipality in the Upper East Region. This event was part of the activities commemorating Ghana's 68th independence anniversary.

According to Ghana News Agency, the competition saw participation from Daduri Junior High School, Methodist Junior High School A, and Methodist Junior High School B. Mr. Daniel Baya Laar, the Bawku Municipal Director of NCCE, highlighted that the quiz competition was conducted under the Commission's working theme 'Ghana's Future: Our Collective Responsibility.' He emphasized the importance of the exercise in building the capacities of future leaders to develop a strong appreciation for the principles enshrined in the 1992 Constitution and to understand their role in nation-building.

The quiz competition aimed to promote patriotism, national consciousness, and active participation in governance and civic responsibilities. It served as an educational platform for students to exhibit their knowledge and talents. The questions posed to the students were primarily from the 1992 Constitution, focusing on the three arms of government and their functions, as well as other chapters like the Directive Principles of State Policy, Fundamental Human Rights and Freedoms, and Territories of Ghana, among others.

Alhaji Muhammadu Issaku, the Bawku Municipal Coordinating Director, commended the NCCE for its innovation, noting that such activities motivate students to excel in their studies. He advocated for the continuity of these activities. Mr. Issac Agbeko Azaaso, the Bawku Municipal Director of Ghana Education Service, praised the depth of knowledge exhibited by the pupils. He remarked that the quiz competition nurtured qualities such as critical thinking, intellectual growth, and teamwork. He also expressed gratitude to the teachers and mentors for their dedication in preparing the students for the competition.

The Methodist Junior High School B emerged as the winner of the contest. Each participating school was represented by two students, and all six representatives received certificates at the end of the competition.
