NCCE Engages Political Party Youth Activists on Peaceful Election in Binduri.

Binduri: The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has engaged political party youth activists in the Binduri District in the Upper East Region on tolerance and peace ahead of Ghana's presidential and parliamentary elections. The initiative is part of a broader effort to ensure violence-free and peaceful elections, equipping the youth with knowledge about extremist recruitment patterns and encouraging them to resist any attempts to join extremist groups.According to Ghana News Agency, the engagement is part of the European Union (EU) sponsored project, 'Preventing and Containing Violent Extremism (PCVE),' which is being implemented by the NCCE in eight regions of Ghana. The project aims to empower the youth to understand electoral violence and build political and ethnic tolerance to ensure social cohesion ahead of the 2024 elections. It also seeks to educate the youth on violent extremism and how to build resilience against radicalization and recruitment into extremist groups.Mr. Abass Emmanuel L aari, District Director of the NCCE, urged the youth to resist political promises intended to incite mayhem in the 2024 general elections. He encouraged them to question why politicians' children are not involved in the struggle for power, as they are the direct beneficiaries. Laari appealed to the youth to foster peace and tolerance, emphasizing their pivotal role in shaping the political landscape of the district and the country.Deputy Superintendent of Immigration, Dr. Rockson Akanbang, from the Ghana Immigration Service at Mognore Border Post, advised the youth to be cautious of misinformation, hate speech, and fake news, urging them to verify information before sharing. Reverend Bishop Akologo Alale Azumah, Bishop of the Orthodox Anglican Church of Ghana, Northern Missionary Diocese, also advised the youth not to be used by politicians to cause violence before, during, and after the elections.
