Nkrankwanta: The Dormaa West District Director of the National Centre for Civic Education (NCCE), Mr. Emmanuel Attah, has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals to the security services as the December 7 elections approach. He emphasized the prevalence of violent extremism and terrorism, highlighting the importance of verifying information before dissemination.According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Attah made these remarks during a meeting focused on the 'Preventing and Containing Violent Extremism' (PCVE) programme funded by the European Union, which is being implemented by the NCCE. The meeting, held at Nkrankwanta, included representatives from political parties, youth groups, religious leaders, security services, and traditional authorities.Mr. Attah pointed out that extremist groups and individuals often employ misinformation and disinformation tactics, targeting unemployed youth for their activities. He also noted that these groups exploit economic vulnerabilities and use bribery to radicalize susceptible individuals.In relation to the upcoming December 7 elections, Mr. Attah reminded citizens of their constitutional duty to vote and discouraged political violence, which poses a threat to national security and peace. Superintendent Prince Asante, the Dormaa West District Police Commander, also called on the public to assist the police in maintaining law and order throughout the election period. He referenced Section 70 of the criminal code, which classifies intentional harm as a first-degree felony, urging the community to report any potential troublemakers to the authorities.
