Muslim Women Encouraged to Foster National Development

Otaakrom: Umi Meimuna Abban, the Coordinator of the National Women's Wing of the Islamic Mission Secretariat (IMS), has called on Muslim women to actively participate in the acceleration of national development. She emphasized the essential role women play in society and the importance of their contributions to progressive national development.

According to Ghana News Agency, Umi Abban highlighted the necessity for women's collective efforts in supporting the government's flagship policies and programs. Her remarks were made during the opening session of the 27th Annual National Women's Conference of the IMS, currently taking place in Otaakrom, located in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region.

The conference, which spans three days, revolves around the theme: 'The role of a Muslim woman in nation building through commitment'. It has attracted Muslim women and girls, as well as Islamic scholars from various regions across the country. Umi Abban also encouraged Muslim women to take responsibility in managing their households and maintaining environmental cleanliness, while reviving the communal labor spirit traditionally upheld by Muslim women.

Hajia Mariam Suleiman-Nketia, the National Secretary of the IMS, noted that the conference includes a variety of activities such as Islamic teachings, physical exercises, general health screenings, sporting events, and cleanup exercises. Additionally, some participants will receive training in employable skills to enhance their socio-economic prospects.

Imam Hassan Yeboah, the Techiman Krobo Imam from the Bono East Region, praised the conference and urged organizers to strengthen the teachings and propagation of Islam.
