MTN Ghana Hosts Mentorship Program for 100 Girls in ICT and Digital Training


Accra: MTN Ghana has hosted 100 participants of the Girls in ICT initiative from the Greater Accra and Ashanti regions for a mentorship and digital skills development programme. The one-day engagement was aimed at inspiring young girls to explore careers in technology and providing them with first-hand exposure to the telecommunications industry.



According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Stephen Blewett, Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, encouraged the girls to see technology as a pathway to leadership and innovation. He emphasized the potential for the next big innovation to emerge from Africa, suggesting that any of the participants could aspire to become the CEO of MTN in the future. The programme focused on fostering creativity, curiosity, and boldness as key attributes for defining Ghana’s digital future.



The event featured female executives such as Mrs. Jemima Kotei-Walsh, Chief Customer Experience Officer, and Mrs. Angela Mensah-Poku, Chief Enterprise Officer, who shared their personal career experiences. They encouraged the participants to persevere in pursuing their ambitions. Additionally, seven members of MTN’s Women in Technology (WIP) initiative provided one-on-one mentorship to the young girls.



Mrs. Georgina Asare Fiagbenu, Senior Manager for Corporate Communications, reaffirmed MTN’s commitment to bridging the digital gender gap. Meanwhile, Mrs. Gloria Agyei, Senior Manager for Learning and Development, outlined the objectives of the WIP programme. The participants also attended sessions on Child Online Protection and Data Management, toured MTN’s Network Monitoring Center, and visited a cell site to gain practical insights into telecom operations.
