La Dade-Kotopon: Madam Rita Odoley Sowah, Member of Parliament (MP) for La Dade-Kotopon, has instituted a scholarship scheme to reward the top-performing male and female candidates in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). Under the scheme, the best-performing male and female students from both public and private schools in the constituency will receive GHS5,000 each.
According to Ghana News Agency, Madam Sowah also donated 3,500 mathematical sets and assorted soft drinks to support all BECE candidates in the area. Presenting the items at Garrison Primary and Junior High School at Burma Camp, she emphasised her commitment to quality education, stating that the gesture aimed to motivate candidates to excel in their examinations. She noted, 'I want to ensure that no candidate in La Dade-Kotopon lacks basic learning materials required for the examination.'
Addressing the candidates, Madam Sowah, who also serves as Deputy Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, urged them to work hard, avoid examination malpractices, and honour the sacrifices made by their parents and guardians. Mr Alfredos Nii Anyentei, Municipal Chief Executive of La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly, advised candidates to reflect on their lessons, approach the examination with confidence, and uphold integrity to avoid cancellation of their papers.
Mrs Habiba Kotomah, District Director of Education, encouraged students to remain calm, read questions carefully, and focus on achieving success. A total of 3,359 candidates from public and private schools within the La Dade-Kotopon Municipality benefitted from the donations. Of the total, 1,598 were boys, while 1,761 were girls. The examination is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, and conclude on June 18, 2025.
