Ministers to Transition to Electric Vehicles as Part of Green Initiative

Accra: Mr. John Abdulai Jinapor, the Minister of Energy and Green Transition, has announced that Ministers of State will soon begin using Electric Vehicles (EV) as part of the government's green transition initiative. The announcement was made during his half-year report on Ghana's energy sector at the Government Accountability Series press conference held at the Presidency.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Jinapor highlighted that the government launched the EV promotion program a few weeks ago, with plans for these vehicles to rely on solar power for charging. This initiative is part of a broader effort to import EVs for use by government agencies. The Minister stated, "So very soon, you will see ministers driving EV vehicles, and we will roll it out to other departments and heads of agencies, some of who are here, will be driving EV vehicles powered by solar power."

The initiative is expected to extend to commercial drivers and other users in collaboration with the private sector, aiming to make EV vehicles a norm in the nation. Mr. Jinapor also noted improvements in Ghana's energy sector, attributed to ongoing reforms addressing technical and financial challenges and modernizing infrastructure.

He further assured that the country has experienced a significant improvement in reliable power supply, overcoming the persistent and erratic power outages that had previously affected the nation. Mr. Jinapor added that during a recent upgrading operation by ENI to increase gas production, the process was successfully completed without any power interruptions, thanks to the collaborative efforts of stakeholders and the technical team.
