Minister Urges Assemblies to Align Budgets with Government’s Reset Agenda

Accra: Mr Donatus Atanga Akamugri, the Upper East Regional Minister, has directed the Municipal and District Assemblies (MDAs) in the region to ensure that their composite budgets align with the government's reset agenda. The minister emphasized the importance of fulfilling the social contract made with the people of Ghana, which involves implementing strategic policies aimed at transforming lives.According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Akamugri stressed that the time had come for the assemblies to set their priorities and objectives in line with the vision of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government. Speaking at the Upper East Regional Composite Budget Hearing in Zuarungu, he urged the assemblies to translate electoral promises into concrete budgetary terms, reiterating President John Dramani Mahama's commitment to fulfilling all promises made to Ghanaians.The assemblies are in the process of preparing their Medium-Term Development Plans for 2026 to 2029, ensuring that government policies and program mes are accurately costed and captured in effective budget frameworks. This exercise, taking place across all 16 regions of Ghana, adheres to Regulation 173 of the Public Financial Management Regulations, 2019 (L.I. 2378).In his remarks on behalf of Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minister of Finance, Mr Akamugri highlighted the government's dedication to resetting the national economy and cautioned against any breaches of financial management regulations. He reminded the assemblies to comply fully with the Public Financial Management Regulations, 2019 (L.I. 2378) and the Public Procurement Act, 2025 (Act 1139), to safeguard public resources.During the Regional Composite Budget Hearing, the Bolgatanga East, Bongo, Binduri, and Bawku West Assemblies presented their proposed budgets and programmes. Discussions focused on pressing issues such as education, healthcare, roads, water, and sanitation, with assemblies appealing to development partners for support in addressing these challenges.
