Sissala East: Miss Hatontie Joyce Gomina's dedication as a loan officer with Vision Fund Ghana has been recognized at the continental level for her impactful work in using loans to improve the lives of women and enhance her loan recovery targets. She earned the title of Best Field Star for Vision Fund International, receiving a star plaque and a certificate at an event in Senegal.
According to Ghana News Agency, Miss Hatontie's perseverance enabled her to transition from managing a modest portfolio of GHS 9,410.86 to achieving the largest portfolio of GHS 1,577,745.12 within Vision Fund Ghana by June 2024. This accomplishment solidified her reputation as the top loan officer. After winning the award, she expressed gratitude to God, her supervisors, and co-workers for their support throughout her journey.
In an interview in Tumu, Miss Hatontie thanked the women's groups she collaborated with for their cooperation, which helped elevate the name of her community to an international platform. She highlighted her motivation to serve clients to their satisfaction and expressed her commitment to continue her efforts, noting the positive changes in her clients' lives.
Miss Hatontie discussed the challenges of working as a community loan officer, particularly the difficulties accessing communities due to poor road networks and concerns over armed robberies. She emphasized the importance of building trust and confidence within the communities for her success and noted the lack of adequate support for women in agriculture and finance.
She appealed for support from the District Assembly Common Fund to assist women in agriculture, stressing the need for prioritizing irrigation due to unpredictable rainfall patterns. Her approach to building trust and educating clients on wise borrowing and business growth significantly contributed to her successful increase in client base from 237 to 1,858.
