Minister Assures Commitment to Settle Debts Owed to Road Contractors

Accra: Mr Kwame Governs Agbodza, the Minister of Roads and Highways, has assured the government's commitment to pay the debts owed to road contractors in the country. He stated that despite the significant debts left by the previous administration in the road sector, the government is determined to complete the construction work on all the abandoned road projects across the nation.

According to Ghana News Agency, the minister emphasized President John Dramani Mahama's dedication to ensuring that road contractors are paid so they can resume their work. Mr Agbodza made these remarks to the media after inspecting the condition of some abandoned road projects in the Sunyani and Sunyani West Municipalities. He was joined by Mr Dickson Kyere Duah, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Berekum West, Madam Millicent Amankwaa Yeboah, the MP for Sunyani West, Mr Seid Mubarak, the MP for Sunyani East Constituencies, Mr Joseph Addae Akwaboa, the Bono Regional Minister, and several urban road engineers.

Mr Agbodza reported having productive discussions with some road contractors and expects them to mobilize and return to their respective sites immediately. The sector minister expressed concern over the state of some abandoned road projects in the Sunyani and Sunyani West Municipalities, specifically mentioning the Sunyani outer ring road (Alaska road).

He noted that the construction of the outer ring road project was initiated by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and urged the contractors involved to mobilize and resume work within three days. Mr Agbodza reassured that efforts are being made to remunerate dedicated road contractors who continue to work despite financial constraints.
