Methodist Men’s Fellowship Urges Youth Mentorship to Sustain Church Growth

Accra: The Association of Methodist Men's Fellowships Northern Accra Diocese has urged its members to actively mentor the youth, aiming to instill the Wesleyan zeal for evangelism and discipleship in the next generation. This call to action was made at the Association's Sixth Annual General Meeting held in Accra, where concerns were raised about the lack of trained youth ready to assume leadership roles.

According to Ghana News Agency, Very Rev Benjamin Gorman, the Superintendent Minister of the Ashongman Circuit of the Methodist Church, highlighted the challenges faced by the fellowship. He noted that the lack of inflow of young members was affecting the fellowship's sustainability. Rev Gorman emphasized that the absence of formal recognition for boys' fellowships should not deter efforts to nurture the youth. He urged members to mentor at least five boys each, preparing them to lead the Wesleyan mission in the future.

The conference, themed 'Discipleship; Growing into Maturity - (Ephesians 4:14-15)', was held at the Most Rev Prof K.A. Dickson Memorial Methodist Ashongman Circuit. Addressing the Men's Fellowship on behalf of Rt. Rev Andrew Mbeah-Baiden, Diocesan Bishop, Rev Gorman stressed the importance of youth mentorship in maintaining the Methodist Church's mission.

Kwamina Amoasi-Andoh, the immediate past Diocesan Chairman, reflected on the year 2024 as one of significant growth and challenges for the Men's Fellowship in the Northern Accra Diocese. He reported an increase in membership from 1,955 to 2,331 members, attributing this growth to unity and commitment to Christ. Although his target of 2,500 members was not met, Amoasi-Andoh expressed confidence in his successor to continue this trajectory.

Amoasi-Andoh reiterated the fellowship's commitment to evangelism and discipleship, aiming to accelerate church growth through the Wesleyan principles. To address the needs of the youth, the fellowship has developed entrepreneurial and youth development schemes, empowering young people to actively participate in the church's mission.

In conclusion, Amoasi-Andoh expressed gratitude to members for their support during his tenure and pledged ongoing assistance for future endeavors. The Association also elected new executives, including Nana Atto Hope as Chairman and Joseph Nii Attram as Secretary, to lead its initiatives.
