Mem Celebrates Inauguration of First Oil Palm Extraction Factory.


Mem: The Amansie South District assembly has inaugurated an oil palm extraction factory for the people of Mem. The facility, the first of its kind in the district, aims to enhance palm oil production-a primary occupation for the local community-thereby creating jobs and improving livelihoods, especially for women in the area.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Clement Opoku Gyamfi, the District Chief Executive, highlighted the facility’s potential to transform the local palm oil sector. He encouraged the community to maintain the factory to ensure it continues serving its purpose of boosting palm oil production. Mr. Opoku Gyamfi also acknowledged Nana Opiah Mensah, the former Wirempehene of Manso Mem, for generously providing land for the construction of the facility, emphasizing the chief’s invaluable contribution.

The Rural Enterprises Agency (REA) was praised for supplying the necessary machinery for the factory. Mr. Opoku Gyamfi noted that funding for the project came from stool land revenue, underlini
ng the district’s commitment to using local resources for community-benefiting initiatives. The factory is equipped with modern machinery and essential amenities, including washrooms, toilets, a changing room, and a stable power supply to ensure efficient operations.

Mr. Opoku Gyamfi stressed the facility’s role in producing high-quality palm oil and related products for the Ashanti region and the country. He urged local farmers to leverage the economic transformation policies of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to enhance their palm oil production and meet international export standards, thereby accessing international markets and contributing to economic development.

Nana Kwantwi Ampomah, Chief of Ankam and representative of Otumfuo Werempehene, expressed gratitude to the NPP government for supporting the establishment of the facility, which is expected to increase production and create jobs, particularly for women in the district.
