ACCRA: President-elect John Dramani Mahama has committed to initiating an investigation into election-related deaths from the 2024 elections if the current administration led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo does not take action. This pledge comes as Mahama prepares to assume office following the December 7 general election.According to Ghana News Agency, President-elect Mahama announced his plans during a meeting with Mr. Irchad Ramiandrasoa Razaaly, the European Union (EU) Ambassador to Ghana. The ambassador visited Mahama in Accra to offer congratulations on his electoral victory. Mahama emphasized that his administration would thoroughly investigate the deaths to prevent similar incidents in the future. He stated, "We will investigate the deaths and so nobody will have the impetus to commit such crimes in future."Mahama also reiterated his commitment to probing past incidents of electoral violence, specifically mentioning the Ayawaso West Wougon violence and the killings during the 2020 electi ons. He assured that victims would receive appropriate compensation and those responsible would be held accountable.Mr. Razaaly, during the meeting, extended his congratulations to President-elect Mahama and also acknowledged Vice President-elect Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang for becoming the first woman to hold that office in Ghana.
