LOGNet Commits to Supporting New Local Government Minister Ahmed Ibrahim

Accra: The Local Governance Network (LOGNet) has pledged its support to Mr. Ahmed Ibrahim, the Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs as he takes office as Minister responsible for rural development.

According to Ghana News Agency, the network, which is comprised of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) focusing on local governance, views Mr. Ibrahim's appointment as a recognition of his dedication, expertise, and commitment to public service. A statement issued by LOGNet expressed its full support and willingness to collaborate with the new Minister to realize his vision and the government's objectives as outlined in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) 2024 manifesto.

The statement emphasized LOGNet's advocacy for inclusive governance, social justice, and community development, highlighting the potential for collaboration to advance principles of good governance, cultural preservation, and religious harmony. It acknowledged the challenges facing effective local governance, such as delays in the release of the District Assemblies Common Fund, property rates collection, sanitation issues, and limited access to quality public services at the local level.

LOGNet's leadership and members expressed confidence in Mr. Ibrahim's ability to lead with integrity and vision. They underscored the importance of his experience and leadership in fostering an environment where all citizens can meaningfully participate in governance and contribute to national development.

With a nationwide membership of CSOs, LOGNet aims to complement government policies and initiatives, enhance local governance, empower chieftaincy institutions, and strengthen religious tolerance. The network is committed to supporting the implementation of the government's 2024 manifesto across all 261 Metropolitan Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in Ghana.
