LG Electronics and Rotary Club Commission Solar-Powered Borehole to Alleviate Ejisu-Asaman Water Crisis

Kumasi: LG Electronics, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Kumasi-Premier International, has commissioned a solar-powered borehole to address the ongoing water crisis in the Ejisu-Asaman community. The initiative is a response to the erratic water supply in the area, largely due to the frequent breakdowns of the community's aging borehole.

According to Ghana News Agency, the existing borehole, built over three decades ago, has undergone multiple renovations but continues to be unreliable. Mr. Stephen Boamah, Assembly member for the Tikrom-Baworo-Asaman Electoral Area, noted that the malfunctioning borehole has led to persistent water shortages, forcing residents to seek alternative, often unsafe, water sources. The unclean nature of local streams makes them unsuitable for potable water, raising concerns about potential disease outbreaks.

Mr. Akwasi Brobbey, a community resident, expressed his worries about the heightened risk of water-related diseases due to the lack of clean water. The community is appealing to the government for a sustainable, long-term solution to the crisis.

Mr. Katakyie Afrifa, a Representative from LG Electronics, emphasized the importance of accessible clean water for all. He explained that the partnership with the Rotary Club aims to address this critical issue in Ejisu-Asaman by implementing a solar water system, promoting both sustainability and renewable energy.

Mr. Afrifa highlighted that LG Electronics has undertaken similar projects in other countries and is now focusing its efforts on Ghana to meet critical community needs through sustainable initiatives.

Mr. Avinash Lakhani, President-elect of the Rotary Club of Kumasi-Premier International, urged community leaders to ensure proper maintenance of the newly installed facility. He assured residents of potential further assistance in sanitation if the solar-powered borehole is maintained effectively over time. Rotary International, a global humanitarian service organization, focuses on addressing pressing challenges such as disease prevention, environmental support, and water and sanitation.
