Kporkuve EP Church Celebrates Centenary with Grand Thanksgiving Service.

KETU NORTH MUNICIPALITY: The Evangelical Presbyterian (EP) Church in Kporkuve marked a significant milestone as it celebrated 100 years of its existence with a series of events culminating in a grand thanksgiving service. The centenary celebrations, themed 'The Mission of the Church, a Journey of One Hundred Years' based on John 15:16, witnessed participation from church leadership and community members alike.According to Ghana News Agency, the weeklong celebrations were led by Reverend Dr Lt Col (Rtd) Bliss Divine Kofi Agbeko, the Moderator of the General Assembly of the E.P Church, along with Rev Dr Lawson Kwaku Dzanku, Clerk of the General Assembly of EP Church, and Pastor Charles Sitsofe. During the event, the Moderator congratulated the congregants for their steadfast faith and urged them to embrace change while staying true to church traditions.The ceremony attracted not only congregants but also Christians from other denominations and traditional leaders. Togbi Ashiagbor IV, Dusifiaga of Weta Tradi tional Area, chaired the service and highlighted the church's contributions to community development, such as the establishment of the E.P Basic School. He encouraged ongoing collaboration between the church and local authorities.A new 500-seater chapel was commissioned and dedicated during the event by the Moderator. Rev Worlanyo Yao Afewu, District Pastor, expressed his joy, noting the church's resilience and moral influence in Kporkuve. He acknowledged the foundational work of early missionaries, stating it as an inspiration for future missionary efforts.The Evangelical Presbyterian Church at Kporkuve was originally established in 1919 through the efforts of Mr Yohane Adukpo Toppar. Although the church reached its centennial in 2019, the celebrations were officially held on November 17, 2024. The eventful week included a public float, lectures, cleanup exercises, a memorial service, and a centenary football match, among other activities.Notable attendees included Togbi Dzreke Dzogegi III, Dufia of At siaveme/Kporkuve, Mama Gayi, Queen Mother of Kporkuve, Togbi Esru, Awadada of Weta Traditional Area, and various political figures.
