Kpando: Delegates at the Kpando Municipal of the Ghana National Association of Teachers' (GNAT) election have elected new Executives to steer the affairs of the Association for four years. The new executives include Ms. Rejoice Kessie, the District Chairperson; Moses Agbemafle, District Vice-Chairman; Ms. Joyceline Asimenu, District Treasurer; and Mr. Courage Bansah, District Trustee.
According to Ghana News Agency, the rest are Michael Dzide, Bright Agbenorxevi, Livingston Aleawogne, Ms. Janet Buadi, and Asamani Richard, serving as the District Basic School representative, District Education and Administration representative, District SHS/SHTS representative, District GNAT-LAS, and District Youth Co-ordinator respectively.
In an acceptance speech, Ms. Kessie expressed her appreciation to the delegates for the confidence they placed in her and the new executives. She told Ghana News Agency that her top priority was to lobby for the construction of a permanent GNAT Secretariat, as they currently operate from a rented premises.
Ms. Kessie said there would be the establishment of a Thrift and Loan Scheme to support teachers in dire need of financial assistance to prevent them from accessing loans from roadside lenders, with its attendant embarrassments. She stated that they would also establish a support fund to assist the newly posted teachers in the municipality.
The GNAT Chairperson added that she will also initiate regular breast cancer screening exercises for the early detection and treatment of the disease. They were sworn into office by Mr. Newton Arku, Volta Regional TVET Coordinator.
