Koo Ofori’s Alleged Fraud Case Adjourned to August 13

Dansoman: The Dansoman Circuit Court has adjourned to August 13 the alleged $50,000 fraud case of Samuel Seth Karikari, also known as Koo Ofori.

According to Ghana News Agency, the adjournment came after prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Christopher Wonder, informed the court that they had been unable to file their disclosures due to the investigator being indisposed. Chief Inspector Wonder requested the court for an adjournment, which was granted by the presiding judge, El-Alawa Abdul-Baasit, for a Case Management Conference.

Karikari, an actor known for his role in the Efiewura Television series, has pleaded not guilty to the charge of defrauding by false pretences and is currently out on GHC320,000 bail with three sureties required to be justified.

The prosecution's case states that the complainant, Dr. Emy Oduro-Burton, a medical practitioner residing in the United States, was allegedly deceived by the accused, who lives in Nungua, near Accra. In 2021, the accused claimed to have found a full plot of land at Spintex for the complainant, valued at $50,000, or GHC309,000.

The complainant transferred the amount into the accused's bank account for the land purchase. However, the accused allegedly paid GHC170,000 to Kwaku Danso, a witness in the case and the actual landowner. Upon returning to Ghana, the complainant found that the land was only a half plot, valued at GHC170,000, contrary to the accused's representation.

After unsuccessful attempts to recover her money, the complainant reported the matter to the police. The accused was arrested and reportedly admitted to the offence in his investigation caution statement, according to the prosecution.
