Accra: The Ghana Chapter of the Korea Foundation for International Healthcare Global Alumni (KGA) health activities has brought relief to the communities in the country.
According to Ghana News Agency, the chapter had undertaken initiatives to strengthen healthcare in Ghana, including conducting medical outreaches, organising blood donation drives, and participating in professional development events.
Dr. Ralf Armah, National President of KGA, highlighted these efforts in Accra at the Chapter's Annual General Assembly. The General Assembly serves as a platform for sharing progress, exchanging ideas, and electing new executives to lead the Alumni Association. It also explores new opportunities for partnerships aimed at improving healthcare outcomes across Ghana.
Dr. Armah stated that under his leadership, the chapter organised a blood donation exercise and sent it to the regional hospital. The chapter also embarked on free clinical consultations in Jamestown and public awareness campaigns on clubfoot. Other activities included an outreach clinic at Nsawam, where some inmates underwent surgeries and eye screenings.
Further, Dr. Armah mentioned that the chapter organised a non-communicable disease campaign to promote wellness and health. Looking ahead, he stated that the chapter's activities would be impactful, sustainable, and aligned with Sustainable Development Goals. The chapter intends to identify flagship activities and scale them up nationwide.
Since 2015, the Korea Foundation for International Healthcare (KOFIH) has invited Ghanaian health professionals to the Republic of Korea to participate in the Dr. LEE Jong-wook Fellowship Programme. This initiative aims to strengthen their professional capacity and advance healthcare delivery in Ghana.
To foster continuous collaboration and knowledge exchange among beneficiaries, the KOFIH Ghana Office, along with the executives of the KOFIH Global Alumni, organizes an annual general assembly meeting that gathers all alumni of the fellowship programme. Mr. Bomin Yang, Country Representative of KOFIH Ghana Office, noted that since 2021, the Ghana KGA Alumni had grown stronger due to their passion and dedication to serving humanity. "KOFIH continues to support the Ghana KGA because we believe that this fellowship is more than a training programme. It is a community that keeps learning and working together for a better health system in Ghana," he said.
