KKMA Begins Construction on New NHIS Office in Kpone

Accra: The Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Assembly (KKMA) has initiated the construction of a National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) office in Kpone to serve the local municipality.

According to Ghana News Agency, the project is expected to be completed within eight months and will be constructed by Handosky International Limited. Mr. Samuel Tetteh Kwarshie Morton, the Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Chief Executive, highlighted that since the establishment of the municipality in 2012, expanding social infrastructure has been a priority, and this new office is a testament to the government's commitment to improving service delivery.

Mr. Morton emphasized that the NHIS is a significant social intervention in the country, providing citizens with access to affordable healthcare. He noted that the lack of a permanent NHIS office in the municipality has been challenging, but the new facility will ensure quicker enrolment and better customer care. He expressed gratitude to the Member of Parliament, assembly members, traditional authorities, and stakeholders for their efforts in organizing free NHIS registration cards for the community.

He also thanked the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) and the government for prioritizing the project and urged everyone to contribute to its timely completion. Mr. Morton also called on the contractor to hire local workers to provide employment opportunities for the municipality's youth.

Mr. Joseph Akuertey Tettey, the Member of Parliament for Kpone-Katamanso, stated that the government is committed to strengthening the NHIS by focusing on financial protection and infrastructure. He noted that traditional leaders and the assembly provided the land for the new office after recognizing the need for a local NHIA office to prevent residents from traveling to other districts for services. He urged the contractor to adhere to the schedule and standards.

Mr. Osman Iddurisu Bampuori, NHIA's Operation Manager for Greater Accra, credited the project to the relentless support of the municipality's leadership and the paramount chief, Nii Tetteh Otu II. Dr. Priscilla Esther Biamah Danquah, the Municipal Health Director, noted that the absence of an NHIS office has burdened residents financially and in terms of time, preventing many from enrolling in the scheme. She emphasized that the new office will improve access to health insurance services and support universal healthcare coverage.

Nii Tetteh Oglie II, representing the paramount chief of the Kpone Traditional Area, acknowledged the project's importance for progress in the Kpone-Katamanso area. He appealed to the government for further assistance to address the municipality's challenges.

Mr. Theodore Edwards, Managing Director of Handosky International Limited, assured that the project would be completed on time without compromising quality and pledged to employ workers from the area.
