Kenya Airways Urges African Airlines to Collaborate to Boost Revenue

Nairobi: Kenya Airways, the national flag carrier, announced on Monday that airlines in Africa should collaborate to boost revenue and unlock the continent's aviation potential. Allan Kilavuka, chief executive officer of Kenya Airways, emphasized the importance of cooperation among African airlines as a means to reduce overall unit costs.

According to Ghana News Agency, Kilavuka addressed journalists in the Kenyan capital, stating, "African carriers are very small compared to global peers, and should collaborate rather than compete to ensure profitability." He disclosed that Kenya Airways has established the Pan-African Airline Group and initiated informal discussions with other African carriers interested in consolidation to achieve economies of scale.

Kilavuka highlighted that West and East Africa previously had regional airlines that helped address the challenge of fragmented air transport markets. He further elaborated that African airlines should form strategic partnerships to reduce air travel costs across the continent.
