Sekondi: Mr Joseph Nelson, the Western Regional Minister, has promised to ensure a fair and equal distribution of development projects across communities in the Region. He emphasized the government's commitment to rolling out programmes and projects that would address challenges, particularly in deprived communities.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Nelson made these remarks during a courtesy call by the chiefs and people of Zongo communities in the Western Region at the Western Regional Coordinating Council (WRCC), in Sekondi. He highlighted the government's strategic focus on addressing the challenges facing the people of Ghana to improve their well-being. Mr Nelson stated that the government aims to implement manifesto pledges, especially in deprived communities, including Zongo areas.
Mr Nelson noted the fulfillment of critical campaign promises by President John Dramani Mahama, such as reducing Hajj fares for the Muslim community and introducing an additional holiday during Eid festivities. He also stressed the government's commitment to improving Islamic education standards and quality Arabic teaching and learning in the country.
The Western Regional Minister praised the Muslim community in the region for dedicating the month of Ramadan to fasting, praying, and interceding on behalf of the country and the current administration's appointees. He underscored the importance of continued peace and stability in the region, which he described as essential for development and attracting investment.
Alhaji Kamaldeen, a representative of the Zongo Chiefs, congratulated Mr Nelson on assuming office and highlighted major challenges facing Zongo areas such as poor road infrastructure, poverty, and lack of employment opportunities. He appealed to the Minister to address these challenges to improve living standards.
