Israeli Ambassador Discusses Long Road to Recovery After Israel-Hamas Conflict

Accra: Mr. Roey Gilad, the Israeli Ambassador to Ghana, highlighted the extensive healing process Israel faces in the aftermath of the Israel-Hamas conflict, stating that although it will be long and arduous, Israel will ultimately emerge stronger. Speaking at a press conference in Accra, he emphasized that while Hamas has not officially surrendered, their capacity as a formidable "army of terror" has been significantly diminished.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Gilad reflected on the impact of the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel, describing the recovery as a gradual and challenging journey. He used the metaphor of a tree to portray Israel's resilience, noting that although some branches have been broken, the trunk and roots remain strong. He expressed confidence that Israel will eventually regain its strength and stability, akin to its status prior to the attack.

The Ambassador also spoke on recent developments following months of Israeli airstrikes on Gaza. A ceasefire deal has led to the release of three women hostages from Gaza and the freeing of 90 Palestinians from Israeli prisons. Mr. Gilad expressed Israel's goal to secure the release of all hostages and eliminate threats emanating from Gaza.

Mr. Gilad identified Iran as a "strong and dangerous" influence in the October 7 attack, underscoring the necessity of Israel's strength to deter adversaries and pursue peace. He remarked on Iran's destabilizing role in the Middle East and speculated on their future actions, particularly regarding nuclear capabilities. The Ambassador conveyed Israel's long-standing desire for peace, tempered by a history that necessitates vigilance.

In addition, Mr. Gilad noted the weakening of Hezbollah by Israeli forces, which has opened a path for Lebanon to "reclaim its sovereignty," especially with the appointment of a new President in the country.
