Accra: Mr. Roey Gilad, the Israeli Ambassador to Ghana, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, expressed a strong belief in the potential for peace between Israelis and Palestinians despite the current challenging circumstances.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Gilad emphasized that although the longstanding conflict had reached a particularly low point, a peaceful resolution that would stabilize and benefit both nations was still possible.

Speaking at a reception in Accra celebrating the 77th Anniversary of the founding of the State of Israel, Mr. Gilad acknowledged the historical depth of the conflict but maintained that peace was necessary and achievable. The event, held at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel, was attended by diplomats, government officials, civil society leaders, and members of the Israeli community in Ghana.

The evening was marked by cultural elegance and diplomatic camaraderie, with the venue adorned with Israeli and Ghanaian flags. Guests enjoyed Israeli delicacies and soft traditional music, which fostered an atmosphere of reflection and celebration. Conversations centered on shared values, cooperation, and hopes for peace in the Middle East, combining solemnity with celebration.

Ambassador Gilad remarked on the current tensions and humanitarian issues in the Middle East, particularly in Gaza, highlighting Israel’s commitment to working with international partners, including African nations, to promote peace and development. He referenced the October 7 ‘massacre’ and the ongoing captivity of individuals by Hamas terrorists as pressing concerns.

The 77th Independence Day of Israel marks a significant geopolitical milestone, and in Ghana, Israel maintains strong diplomatic and developmental ties. These relations, which began with an office in Accra in 1956, have evolved to include various sectors such as agriculture, technology, and education.

Mr. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, Ghana’s Minister for Works, Housing, and Water Resources, reaffirmed the strong ties between Ghana and Israel, praising Israel’s resilience and innovation. He noted the positive impact of Israeli investments and initiatives like the Ghana-Israel Agribusiness Innovation Centre and training programs offered by Israel’s Agency for International Development Cooperation.

The Minister emphasized Ghana’s commitment to peace, dialogue, and mutual understanding, underscoring the shared vision for progress that underpins the longstanding relationship between the two countries.
