Iseguri Initiative Empowers Women and Young Feminists in Climate-Smart Organic Gardening

Kadjebi: The Iseguri Initiative, a non-governmental organisation based in Kadjebi, has recently conducted a training programme focused on innovative organic gardening techniques for women and young feminists in the Nkwanta South Municipal area. This initiative aims to promote climate-smart agriculture practices in the region.

According to Ghana News Agency, the training saw active participation from 51 women and young feminists from Odumase, a farming community within the Nkwanta South Municipality, and its surrounding areas. The programme was themed 'Climate Change: Its Impacts on Agriculture and Adaptation for Sustainable Practices,' addressing critical issues impacting local agriculture.

Ms Jemima Etse, the Focal Person for the Iseguri Initiative, highlighted the importance of agriculture as a fundamental pillar for national development. She urged participants to embrace innovative farming techniques and to take the training seriously to enhance their agricultural skills and resilience.

Ms Rejoice Selorm Azamati, the Women in Agricultural Development (WIAD) Officer for the Municipality, pointed out the significant opportunities presented by the Iseguri programme. She encouraged participants to apply their newly acquired knowledge to home gardening projects, promoting the growth of chemical-free vegetables. This approach is expected to lead to healthier meals and improved nutrition for families, especially children, who are seen as the future of the nation.

Beyond imparting practical skills, the programme fostered a strong sense of community empowerment, particularly among women and young feminists in the region. By equipping participants with tools for sustainable agriculture, the Iseguri Initiative is contributing to building a more climate-resilient and food-secure future for the Nkwanta South Municipality.
