International Chamber of Commerce Ghana Pays Tribute to Alhaji Asoma Banda

Accra: The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Ghana has paid tribute to Alhaji Asoma Banda, commemorating his lifelong contributions as a beacon for future generations of entrepreneurs and leaders.

According to Ghana News Agency, Alhaji Asoma Banda, who was the Founding Chairman of ICC Ghana and a renowned entrepreneur, passed away on March 1, 2025, at the age of 91. The tribute, penned by Mr. Emmanuel Doni Kwame, Secretary General of ICC Ghana, highlighted Banda's numerous achievements that had a profound impact on both Ghana and the international business community.

Alhaji Banda's journey began in the lead-up to Ghana's independence, where he undertook the challenging task of transporting cattle from the Sahel provinces to Kumasi. This experience underscored the importance of cooperation in promoting international commerce, a principle that guided his future endeavors.

As a pioneering force in international shipping, land transport, and aviation, Banda exemplified the principles of promoting trade, fostering economic growth, and advancing global prosperity. His visionary leadership solidified Ghana's position in international commerce, connecting industries and markets with a commitment to excellence.

Banda's efforts led to the formation of ICC Ghana, which aimed to promote open international trade and investment systems. His contributions were instrumental in positioning Ghana as a strategic hub in global maritime trade, revolutionizing land transport, and expanding Ghana's aviation connectivity.

Beyond his corporate achievements, Banda's philanthropic work in education, healthcare, and social development left an indelible mark on countless lives. He believed that true progress was measured by the upliftment of society's most vulnerable, aligning his business leadership with ethical values.

ICC Ghana reaffirmed its commitment to the principles Banda championed, including free and fair trade, business integrity, and sustainable development. His legacy continues to inspire future generations of entrepreneurs and leaders.

As a testament to his influence, a posthumous award, originally intended to be presented to him during the Second ICC Ghana Arbitration and Alternative Dispute Resolution Day, was given to his widow, Mrs. Baaba Banda, by a high-powered ICC Ghana delegation.

Alhaji Asoma Banda's passing is an irreplaceable loss, not only for Ghana but for the global business community. His life's work, immortalized in his advocacy and achievements, remains a guiding light for those navigating the modern landscape of international trade.
