HURDS Collaborates With Five Schools to Promote Menstrual Hygiene

Prestea Huni Valley: Madam Maribel Okine, the Western Regional Director for Gender, emphasized the significance of menstrual hygiene as an integral part of reproductive rights, highlighting menstruation as a natural and universal experience among women and girls. She urged young girls to manage their menstrual periods effectively to maintain personal safety and health.According to Ghana News Agency, Madam Okine made these remarks during an event organized by the Human Rights and Development Services (HURDS) in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service - Prestea Huni Valley. The event, which commemorated Menstrual Hygiene Day, involved students from basic schools in the community, including Methodist Primary School, Islamic Basic School, Catholic Junior High School, Catholic Primary School, and M/A Junior High School.The event received funding support from Mohammed Brothers Limited in Tarkwa and saw active participation from various stakeholders. These included the Assemblyman for the area, the School Improvement Support Officer (SISO) for the circuit, the Girl Child Coordinator, and a representative from Mohammed Brothers Limited.Ms. Eugenia Dery, Programme Manager of HURDS, encouraged the students to remain focused on their education and work towards achieving their goals. She also advised them to report any incidents of sexual violence to their teachers or parents promptly to ensure they receive the necessary support and intervention.The programme aimed to raise awareness and create an environment of support, education, and empowerment for adolescent girls within the community.
