Accra: The Ghana Employers' Association (GEA) has expressed its condolences to President John Dramani Mahama, the government, and the people of Ghana, as well as the bereaved families of the eight victims of the helicopter tragedy that occurred on August 6, 2025.
According to Ghana News Agency, Nana Dr Emmanuel Adu-Sarkodee Afriyie, the President of the GEA, released a statement conveying the association's shock and sorrow over the helicopter accident. The tragedy claimed the lives of eight distinguished Ghanaians, including Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence; Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, and Member of Parliament for Tamale Central.
Additional victims were Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, Deputy National Security Coordinator; Dr Samuel Sarpong, National Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC); and Mr Samuel Aboagye, Deputy Director-General of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) and a former NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Obuasi East. The helicopter also carried Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Mane-Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, all members of the Ghana Air Force.
Nana Dr Adu-Sarkodee Afriyie emphasized that the association's heartfelt condolences are extended to all affected, noting the incident as a significant loss to the nation. He stated, "This devastating incident is indeed a painful loss not only to the families affected but also to the entire nation. We mourn with the Government and stand in solidarity with all who have been touched by this tragedy."
The GEA recognized the dedicated service and contributions of the victims to national development and acknowledged the grief the sudden loss has brought upon the country. Nana Dr Adu-Sarkodee Afriyie called for unity, compassion, and mutual support in these challenging times as the nation collectively comes to terms with the tragedy.
He concluded with a message of peace and remembrance, "May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace, and may their memories inspire us to cherish the gift of life and the bonds we share as Ghanaians."
