Accra: Dr Clement Apaak, Deputy Minister of Education, has expressed deep sorrow over the helicopter crash on August 6, 2025, which claimed eight lives. Dr Apaak, also the Member of Parliament for Builsa, was in a very sad mood as he narrated his memories with some of the victims, including Dr. Omane Boamah, Dr. Muntala Mohammed, and Dr. Samuel Sarpong.
According to Ghana News Agency, Dr Apaak shared personal anecdotes about the victims, highlighting the close relationships he had with them. He recalled a recent interaction with Dr. Omane Boamah, mentioning how they communicated regarding a teacher's delay in obtaining a staff ID. Dr Apaak expressed his commitment to addressing the issue with the Ghana Education Service.
Dr Apaak also reminisced about Dr. Muntala Mohammed, whom he fondly referred to as his "troublesome younger brother." He recounted how Dr. Mohammed would humorously introduce him as the President of the Global Association of Dog Meat Eaters.
Reflecting on his bond with Dr. Limuna, Dr Apaak shared how they called each other by playful nicknames, a cultural practice among the Gonja and Builsa people. Dr. Limuna had planned to visit Dr Apaak to discuss a potential collaboration with an international NGO focused on supporting education in Ghana.
Dr Apaak mourned the loss of Dr. Samuel Sarpong, recalling their recent attendance at the June 4th celebrations. The event had been an opportunity for them to discuss important issues and consider formalizing their ideas.
In light of the tragedy, Dr Apaak called for a national tribute, a thorough investigation into the crash, and renewed efforts to combat illegal mining, known locally as galamsey, in honor of the victims. He emphasized the importance of understanding the cause of the crash and ensuring that the sacrifices made by the eight individuals are not forgotten.
