Helicopter Crash Claims Lives of Ghana’s Top Ministers

Accra: MTN Ghana, a telecommunication company in Ghana, has expressed sadness over the helicopter crash Wednesday which claimed the lives of the Minister of Defence, the Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, and six others. It condoles with the President John Dramani Mahama and Ghanaians during the difficult period of national mourning.

According to Ghana News Agency, Stephen Blewett, Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, called on citizens to honour the memories of those who perished in the crash. 'As we reflect on this loss, we encourage everyone to use their social media platforms to share messages of hope, unity, and compassion, as we navigate this difficult period together. May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace,' the statement read.

Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister of Defence, and Alhaji Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, perished in a helicopter crash on Wednesday. They were onboard a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter, carrying top state officials which briefly went missing in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.

Also confirmed dead were Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Mr Samuel Aboagye, a former Parliamentary Candidate; and Dr Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC). The helicopter's crew, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, also lost their lives.
