GWCL to Take Legal Action Against Defaulting Customers.

Western Region: Nana Yaw Barima Barnie, the Acting Chief Western Regional Manager of Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), has announced that the company is in the process of compiling a list of defaulting customers in the region for prosecution due to outstanding debts and unpaid water bills.According to Ghana News Agency, as of October this year, records indicate that customers in the Western Region owe GWCL approximately GHC23 million. The company is actively taking steps to bring defaulters to court to recover these unpaid amounts. In an interview, Nana Barnie stated, "We are compiling the list of all customers who have been disconnected but have failed to pay their bills and send them to court because we need the money to run our operations."Nana Barnie urged defaulting customers to settle their debts promptly to avoid legal action. He emphasized, "We are very much prepared to use every legal means to retrieve all the arrears that people owe us." He also highlighted that GWCL has transitioned from bein g a subvented organization and now relies on bill payments to sustain daily operations, with non-payment posing a significant challenge.He appealed to customers to pay their water bills to ensure the smooth running of operations, warning that continued non-payment could result in difficulties in purchasing necessary chemicals for water treatment, fuel, and other operational items. "We are pleading with our customers to pay their water bills to help us run our day-to-day activities," he added.Nana Barnie encouraged customers to utilize GWCL's electronic payment platforms for convenience. "In order to make it easier for customers to pay their bills, we have introduced the electronic mode of payment, and they do not need to walk to any pay point, a bank, or GWCL offices," he explained. He mentioned that customers could use the GWCL mobile application or other platforms to make payments, thereby contributing to better service delivery.
