Accra: The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has reaffirmed its commitment to working with partners to uphold standards and coordinate data collection for national development. In a statement to mark World Statistics Day, GSS urged stakeholders to 'place evidence at the centre of planning and policy' to achieve more 'inclusive, and sustainable development outcomes.'

According to Ghana News Agency, World Statistics Day celebrates the critical role of data in shaping national progress. This year's theme is 'Quality Statistics for Everyone.' Highlighting its mandate, GSS emphasised the importance of producing reliable data, stating it would continue to 'make quality statistics an everyday tool for decision making at all levels of society.'

GSS stated that 'quality statistics are far more than numbers. They are the foundation of progress, the mirror of national realities, and the compass for policy direction.' It recognised that the credibility of every policy depends on the integrity of the data that informs it, and that its work is guided by rigorous methodology and transparency, strengthening public confidence in statistics across government, business, academia, and civil society.

GSS noted that data collection systems would be modernised in response to technological advancements shaping how societies gather and use information. It cited innovations that have enhanced efficiency, reduced delays, and expanded access to real-time, high-quality information. GSS expressed appreciation to partners who continue to support the production and use of official data, emphasising the responsibility to ensure that statistics are not only available but also understandable, accessible, and actionable.

GSS compiles monthly and quarterly data on key economic indicators including inflation, the Consumer Price Index, Producer Price Index, and Gross Domestic Product. It also conducts routine surveys and censuses to produce population, housing, demographic, economic, and agricultural statistics at the local, district, and national levels. These datasets inform decision-making across government, private sector, academia, civil society, and development partners.
