Accra: The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) and the Ghana Navy have strengthened their strategic alliance to ensure port and maritime security in Ghana. The two institutions reaffirmed their commitment to maritime security during a recent meeting at the GPHA headquarters.
According to Ghana News Agency, Brigadier General Paul Seidu Tanye-Kulono, the Director General of the GPHA, welcomed the new Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) of the Eastern Naval Command, Commodore Solomon Asiedu-Larbi, at the Authority's headquarters. This visit was part of Commodore Asiedu-Larbi's stakeholder engagement following his appointment as the FOC in May.
Discussions between the Director General and the FOC focused on enhancing maritime security, especially after the commencement of 24-hour operations at the ports of Tema and Takoradi. Both parties deliberated on strengthening collaboration between the Ghana Navy and the GPHA, particularly in port safety and joint operations to safeguard Ghana's territorial waters.
Commodore Asiedu-Larbi acknowledged the critical role of GPHA in national development and emphasized the Director General of the Navy's commitment to deepening their cooperation for the mutual benefit of both institutions. He praised GPHA for its continuous support to the Ghana Navy, which ensures a lasting relationship between the two entities.
The Director General of GPHA congratulated the FOC of the Eastern Naval Command on his new role and reaffirmed the Authority's willingness to maintain a closer collaboration to ensure the safety and efficiency of port operations.
