Government’s Achievements to Influence 2024 Election Outcome, Says Information Minister.

Accra: Ms Fatimatu Abubakar, Ghana's Minister for Information, expressed confidence in the government's achievements as the nation approaches the December 7 general election. She emphasized that the progress made in sectors such as education, health, and tourism, along with Dr. Bawumia's vision for sustainable development, would play a significant role in retaining the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.According to Ghana News Agency, Ms Abubakar highlighted a surge in Senior High School enrolment, which increased from 800,000 students in 2016 to over 1.4 million in 2023. She attributed this growth to the Free Senior High School programme, which removed financial barriers. The Minister described the reforms in the education sector as the government's most significant achievement, noting the commitment to investing in the country's future by prioritizing education.In the health sector, Ms Abubakar mentioned the commissioning of 47 hospitals nationwide and the 'Agenda 111' initiative designed to impro ve healthcare delivery in underserved areas. She illustrated the impact of these investments by highlighting the benefits for residents in the Garu District, who previously endured long journeys for medical care, but can now access local healthcare facilities.Acknowledging global economic challenges, Ms Abubakar pointed to the government's efforts to alleviate the burden on citizens through recovery programmes. She noted the growth in Ghana's GDP from $56 billion when President Akufo Addo took office to $76 billion by the end of 2023, underscoring investments in critical infrastructure and social support programmes.Ms Abubakar asserted that the NPP administration, under President Akufo Addo, had proven its capability to lead during challenging times. She emphasized that the electorate would recognize the government's efforts and endorse Dr. Bawumia in the upcoming election, citing the administration's momentum and public support as evidence of its effectiveness over the past eight years.
