Government Releases GH?8.9 Million Feeding Grant to Special Schools

Accra: The government has released GH?8.9 million as feeding grants to Special Schools across the country. Prof. Smile Gavua Dzisi, the Deputy Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), stated that this intervention reaffirms the government's commitment to inclusive education, ensuring that no learner, regardless of ability or circumstance, is left behind.

According to Ghana News Agency, Prof. Dzisi made these remarks on behalf of GES Director General, Prof. Ernest K. Davis, at the 2024 WASSCE Distinction Awards Ceremony held in Accra by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC). WAEC annually sets aside a day to honor candidates who excel in the WASSCE.

Prof. Dzisi further mentioned that the Capitation Grant, a crucial support mechanism for the efficient operation of basic schools, has also been released. "This ensures that schools can meet essential operational needs and continue delivering teaching and learning without disruption," she emphasized.

She added that these financial releases are not just administrative updates but are substantial steps toward strengthening the foundation of the education system. They reflect a resolve to create a Ghana where every child has the opportunity to be educated and to excel.

Prof. Dzisi praised teachers, parents, candidates, and policymakers for promoting the spirit of excellence, which is being celebrated. She urged everyone to reaffirm their commitment to building an education system based on equity, accountability, and the pursuit of excellence.

Addressing the awardees, Prof. Dzisi encouraged them to view their achievements as a launchpad for greater success. "The country is watching, and we believe in your potential to lead, innovate, and uplift," she said.

She noted that the award ceremony exemplifies what is possible when commitment meets opportunity, adding that when talent is nurtured, guided, and given space, it thrives immensely. Prof. Dzisi commended WAEC for establishing the excellence award, describing the event as a testament to the value of hard work, perseverance, and purpose. She challenged students to dream bigger, aim higher, and serve their communities and country with excellence and honor.
