Accra: President John Dramani Mahama has committed to the restoration of the Mills Memorial Library, promising the family of the late President Professor John Evans Atta Mills that the government will ensure the facility is rehabilitated. The assurance was given during a wreath-laying ceremony at Asomdwe Park in Accra, marking the 13th anniversary of President Mills' passing.
According to Ghana News Agency, President Mahama addressed concerns raised by Madam Mercy Araba Quarshie, a sister of the late President Mills, about the library's condition. He confirmed that Mr. Kofi Totobi Kwakye, a former Minister of State, has been actively involved in the project since its inception and continues to play a role in its rejuvenation.
The Mills Memorial Library, which had been handed over to the University of Cape Coast following the transition of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, has deteriorated over time. However, discussions are underway to restore the facility to its former glory for optimal use. President Mahama reassured that efforts are being coordinated by Mr. Kwakye and a dedicated team to ensure the library's restoration.
Expressing gratitude, Madam Quarshie, on behalf of the Atta Mills family, thanked President Mahama, the government, and the ruling NDC for organizing the commemorative event. The ceremony saw attendance from prominent figures such as Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Speaker of Parliament Mr. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, and Chief of Staff Mr. Julius Debrah, along with NDC's National Chairman Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia and General Secretary Mr. Fifi Fiavi Kwetey.
