Government Inaugurates Gushegu Water System to Tackle Water Shortage.

Gushegu: The government has inaugurated the Gushegu Water System project to supply potable water to residents of Gushegu and other towns in the Gushegu Municipality, including Bulugu and Nyensung, to address the perennial water shortage experienced in the area. The project, which began in June of this year, was executed by the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA) with funding from the government amounting to more than GHc11.23 million. It is expected to serve a 20-year projected population of 53,954, with a demand of approximately 2.0 million gallons per day.

According to Ghana News Agency, the project involved the drilling and mechanisation of two boreholes at Bulugu and the activation of two mechanised boreholes at Nyensung, all powered by both solar energy and electricity. Additionally, 9.3 kilometres of pipelines have been laid to transport the water to a high-level steel tank with a total storage capacity of 35,200 gallons to distribute to the communities through 32 public standpipes.

Mr Hassan
Tampuli, Member of Parliament for Gushegu and Deputy Minister of Transport, speaking during the inauguration of the project at Gushegu, stated that it would address the perennial water challenges and serve the people for a long time. He assured residents that he would cover their water bills for the first month, emphasizing that this offer was extended to everyone, regardless of political affiliation.

Furthermore, Mr Dawuni Robert Yaja, Gushegu Municipal Chief Executive, urged local Chiefs to support CWSA officials in their efforts to provide water for the community. He highlighted the importance of collective responsibility in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals of providing potable water for all by 2030 and encouraged consumers to pay for their water usage.

Naa-Yab Ziblim II, Paramount Chief of Gushegu, expressed gratitude to the government for addressing one of the area’s critical needs.
