GNFS Records Significant Drop in Prank Calls in Early 2025

Accra: The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) received a total of 131,862 prank calls during the first quarter of 2025. This represents a 31.52 percent reduction compared to the same period in 2024, which saw 192,545 prank calls.

According to Ghana News Agency, the GNFS attributed this decrease to enhanced public education and advocacy. Efforts were intensified across media, schools, communities, and digital platforms to inform the public about the dangers and legal consequences of making prank calls. These initiatives aimed to improve public understanding of how prank calls waste resources, delay real emergency interventions, and pose risks to lives and property.

The GNFS issued a statement highlighting that prank calling emergency lines is a punishable offense under Ghanaian law. The statement emphasized the seriousness of the matter and the potential consequences for offenders.

Mrs. Daniella Mawusi Ntow-Sapong, the Acting Chief Fire Officer, praised the public for responding positively to these educational efforts and urged continued cooperation. She reaffirmed the GNFS's commitment to enhancing emergency response delivery and encouraged immediate reporting of fire incidents through the toll-free numbers 192 / 112 or hotlines 0302772446 / 0299340383 for prompt action.
